I’m not going to lie to y’all – I’m very short on time this week so I’m keeping it real simple & sweet! This week I’m bringing to you a cute outfit of the day also known as an OOTD post but with tons of photos and promises of a better post next week. What do you as a reader prefer; photo heavy posts or word heavy posts? Recipes or fashion? Please let me know down below!
Continue reading “Outfit Of The Day – Purple & Pink!”
Every once in a while I like to mix it up – you can’t wear pink EVERYDAY (well you can and I aspire to). BUT this week’s OOTD I wanted to do bit of a style swap and add a touch of darkness to my usual candyfloss demeanor and aesthetic. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is a necessary evil sometimes and with it being a new year #2018 I wanted to spice things up a bit – I don’t want y’all to get sick of me 😉 –
Although in saying that – I have absolutely no idea why I picked a long sleeve dress when we currently have 80-90% humidity on a regular basis; am I crazy? Yes, yes I am – anything in the name of fashion!
What season is it where you’re living? In New Zealand we’re pretty much at the end of our Summer and boy has it been a HOT one!! I’ve never felt humidity like it – I think myself and a lot of people are very excited for some cooler temps in Autumn.
The Carmen Wrap Turban – Black & White – Who’s that Girl?
As many of you know (if you’re plugged into the ‘pin-up girl’ world) you would have seen turbans/knotted hair scarves are very “in” at the moment. It’s like the trend exploded from nowhere and next thing I know everyone is wearing them! I originally fell in love with the Sarahsdoowopdos creations but whenever she would restock I’d miss out; I tried for 3 months (sometimes timezone differences can be the worst)! Then I started to notice Miss Ruby Rabbit was wearing a collection of different hairscarves/turbans and had them down as Who’s that Girl. And of course I thought; Who’s that girl?? I followed on Instagram immediately – before there was even a shop! And on the night of the release I bought two (because shipping is hella expensive). I don’t get to wear this one as much as I would like to but I absolutely love it; I feel like it gives an extra oomph to an outfit and it really is a statement piece.
Katniss Dress in Green – Voodoo Vixen
Oh this dress, you either love it or hate it. I personally love it(which is why I own it)! I’m obsessed with cats so finding a dress with cats on it is amazing and finding a swing dress with cats on it is spectacular! I’ve had this dress for a very long time; since I was a baby pinup and before I even shared my outfits online – what a crazy time. The quality of the fabric is nice – it’s a little heavy for summer #90%humidity but it’s definitely the right dress for winter. I knew when I purchased this dress awhile back I looked at reviews and I knew a lot of customers had issues with the sleeves of the dress particularly the armpits. I purchased the medium and had absolutely no issues with the arms at the time however I’m more of a medium/large (12-14 NZ) and have felt a little tightness so that’s something you should definitely look in to if you’re thinking about purchasing.
Retro Belt – Black – Hell Bunny
Well, if you read my previous post ‘Holy Grail Items’ you’ll know that I am obsessed with these belts! To reiterate..
- They cinch you waist and make it look iddy biddy!
- Are stomach friendly (if you have issues with stomach health)
- Sizes small, medium and large – but they do have a lot of stretch!
- In colours: red, pink, black, white, sky blue, lavender, mint, aqua, silver, gold, green & burgundy.
- Affordable! $15.00 NZD for a belt that will last you years!
I hope y’all liked this little twist on my usual OOTD! Do you dress in darker colours? Do you hate pink? Your weekly challenge is to wear something outside your comfort zone for a day and see how you feel! Let me know how you get on in the comments or @missflossypots on Instagram.
This year was my fourth year attending the American Vehicle Day at the Trentham racecourse – it’s getting to be a tradition now and I think it’s only because of the hot doughnuts they sell! You can find last years post here – I talk all about it and to be honest it’s literally the same thing every year; the same cars, people, food and mostly the same stalls; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! It’s $10 ticketed event with tons of vintage cars from the 30’s to modern day, there are the typical food trucks (hot chips – they’re soo good, hot dogs, doughnuts, Thai food and ice cream), stalls selling retro items (no vintage that I could see though) and tons of car enthusiasts everywhere!
Last year I went all black and white because that’s was my vibe at the time but this year was completely different. My theme this year was as tradition 1950’s day wear as I could possibly get, that’s why I wore my day wear inspired out from Miss Pinup New Zealand but jazzed it up with a few different accessories! I am a little obsessed with pastel colours at the moment (well since forever) and I feel like this outfit totally encompasses that from head to toe.
I don’t think I’ve really talked about this dress before; I’ve never had the opportunity to properly photograph this beauty and I didn’t want to share it until I could capture it properly! This dress is custom made by Cry Cry Cry Clothing – as you know I am obsessed with Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I choose to wear it whenever I can. This dress was based on the amazing pink dress that was created for my Miss Pinup New Zealand entry photos; I knew I wanted another variation on the pink dress and I knew I wanted it blue. And Fran delivered once again! I love the style of this dress; the fit is PERFECT. It’s a proper swing skirt too – I’m wearing TWO petticoats in these photos and there’s still room! I think having enough fabric in a skirt is so essential to this kind of ‘look’ after all there’s nothing more magical then swirling in a proper swing dress/skirt especially with a pink petticoat! Also look at that little glimpse of gingham at the bottom – I NEED a blue gingham dress in my life; if you have seen one please let me know below! I’ve had a lot of questions about my Cry Cry Cry Clothing pieces and I will say a lot of them have been custom made for me so you won’t find them on the website BUT you can contact Fran directly if you want something similar and custom made!
Dress: Custom made by Cry Cry Cry Clothing
Hat: Vintage from Annette’s Attic
Hair flower: Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Belt: Hell Bunny
Petticoat: Banned from Bleu Foxxx Shop
Shoes: Lucy Heels – Bettie Page Shoes
Earrings: Thin Leather Design
Can we just talk about these shoes for a second? These shoes are from Bettie Page Shoes and they were given to me for Christmas from my amazing boyfriend and I’m beyond pleased. I always get a little anxious when I see heels because I cannot walk in heels to save my life and I cannot be uncomfortable when it comes to shoes. I can actually walk in these and they don’t hurt and haven’t given me blisters!! I think I’m going to need these in all of the colours just so I can colour match outfits 😉 .
That’s all for this week, I hope you liked this blog post; these have to be my favourite outfit photos for this year and I can’t wait to shoot more! ❤
This weeks outfit of the day was again all about colour or maybe lack of.. The combination of black, white & red is definitely one of my favourites; although pink is definitely higher on the list. This look was inspired by my usual face of the day; black hair, pale skin and red lips… I really love a cohesive look – colour matching and all that jazz (you’ll soon realise this with these outfit of the day posts)!
As this is a fairly new segment on my blog I want to reiterate what I’m trying to do with this new take on the classic outfit of the day post:
Each week I will post about one of my outfits like an outfit of the day post. Instead of the generic one shot of the outfit from my Instagram I will be posting more photos of the outfits, where the clothes come from and the inspiration behind each look.
Hair scarf: Dangerfield
Top: Powder Puff in black -Vixen by Micheline Pitt
Brooch: Erstwilder from Two Lippy Ladies
Pin: Red Lipstick Club – Fairy Tale Collars
Skirt: Dangerfield (out of stock)
Shoes: Slip On Loafers – K-mart
Piano skirt – Dangerfield Clothing
When I plan my outfits (yes, I PLAN because I truly hate waking up in the morning unprepared!) I tend to create it around one specific item, theme or hairstyle and for this weeks outfit it was this amazing piano skirt from Dangerfield. No longer in stock, I received this beauty when my parents came back from Australia in 2016 – it’s held up pretty well hasn’t it? I hadn’t heard of Dangerfield before and I was super surprised that my parents had found a little bit of pinup reproduction that I hadn’t heard of (truly shocking?!) but I’m so glad they did. I find the fit of this really nice ( a little roomy for a size 12 but I personally prefer that with skirts) and it even has a little cotton/tulle layer underneath skirt to give it a little oomph if you don’t own a petticoat – I also really like the length of this skirt! Dangerfield has three main labels and they are; Princess Highway, Dangerfield & Revival – If you’re into reproduction and want swing skirts that are the right length and will fit a petticoat underneath I highly recommend shopping in Revival, all the Dangerfield pieces I own are from the Revival line and I absolutely love them!
Powder Puff Top – Vixen by Micheline Pitt
Another Vixen by Micheline Pitt piece this week because I’m a little bit obsessed! It has been beyond hot here in New Zealand and wearing shirts (even t-shirts) have been a bit of a mare! Never fear! The powder puff saves the day with it’s low cut/plunge bust and back it allows your skin to breathe in this barely breathable heat.. It’s made from heavy cotton spandex and the puffed sleeve are elasticated so they can sit on your shoulders or off for more of a edgy cool look (but if you’re like me and wearing a strapless bra is too much of an effort keep it on your shoulders because it looks just as cool). This has been a huge favourite of mine this summer and I desperately want it in ALL of the colours!
Also another huge thumbs up is that the powder puff is designed & made by hand in LA!!
Red Lipstick Club – Fairy Tale Collars
First rule of Lipstick Club is… wear a pin that tells everyone that you’re in the red lipstick club. It’s true, I am a dedicated follower of this club – everyday I wear my Besame lipstick and I love it. Fairy Tale Collars hit the nail on the head with this quirky & clever design that most of us pin up gals can relate to – I highly recommend checking out this lovely ladies social pages!
Picnic Portrait – Erstwilder
You’ll probably remember this cutie from a post I did a couple of years ago. I was contacted by Two Lippy Ladies because they thought this brooch screamed Miss Flossypots and they were so right! At the time (and to this day) I rock the floppy hats, gingham and sunnies; she even has the same mole!
Hairscarf – Dangerfield
I have to say a hairscarf is a hairscarf BUT I do quite like this one! I bought this from the Dangerfield store in Auckland (a place of dreams!!) and I wasn’t too sure about it at first as the price was almost double my usual hair-scarves but I have found the quality to be twice as good. I use this red hair scarf quite a bit as you probably have seen from my Instagram and it doesn’t have any holes in it despite me pushing bobby pin through it!
I have also found it’s the best size/shaped one I have come across; it ties into a neat little bow every time!
Loafers – K-mart
Say what you like about K-mart, I love it. I bought these shoes earlier last year and I absolutely adore them; the cute floral embroidery and faux suede look. I walk to and from work (6km) 5 days a week in these suckers (I know that is definitely not good for my feet) and they have lasted sooo well especially for $17!!
Thanks for reading my second installment! I’ve put out a blog post every week since the new year; I can’t quite believe it?! What would you like to see here on Miss Flossypots? I’ve been wanting to do a Ask Flossy post (probably just a one off) but I don’t know if anyone would be interested? Let me know below. 🙂
Remember to subscribe via email for the latest ❤
I recently asked in a poll on my Instagram stories “What kind of content would you like to see?” and tutorials/outfits won by a landslide! So here I am giving the people what they want with a new segment (hopefully I can keep it up!) for my blog. Each week I will post about one of my outfits like an outfit of the day post. Instead of the generic one shot of the outfit from my Instagram I will be posting more photos of the outfits, where the clothes come from and the inspiration behind each look. I’m hoping this is a better twist on the classic outfit of the day posts and will keep me posting regularly on this website! Remember to subscribe via email in order to stay up to date with my latest, you can find that on the side panel (to the right) – I really appreciate it. 🙂
Outfit of the day – 05/01/2018
Skirt: Make up & Hair Print by Micheline Pitt
Top: Hell Bunny from Kabella Baby
Pin: Resting Babe Face – Oh you Fox
Brooch: Frenchy Grease Collection – Erstwilder
Shoes: Lucy Heels – Bettie Page Shoes
Hairflower: Signature Rose Double
If you have been following me for a while (heck, a week even) you’ll know that I love the colour PINK! If I could paint my walls pink I would; sadly that’s just one of the many downsides to renting.. So I make up for it by dressing head to toe in pink on a regular basis – watch out 2018 Flossy with pink hair will be a THING.
HELL BUNNY TUESDAY DRESS – KABELLA BABY
Today is no different, I absolutely love gingham and loud prints – pairing them together is usually a taboo in the modern fashion world but I couldn’t care less!
I bought the yellow version of the gingham top which is actually a shorter dress! I’m not a huge fan of short dresses (I live in Wellington and the wind is VERY temperamental; I just can’t risk another flashing incident!) So I tucked the yellow version of the dress into a skirt a while back and I was converted; I bought two more in different colours very soon after that. I love the look and structure of the dress/top, with pleats in the bodice and being made of cotton it doesn’t cling to parts I don’t want it to! The only downside is that it’s a pinch small in the shoulders but I have a larger frame than most females so it’s just one of those things I have to deal with.
VIXEN SWING SKIRT VINTAGE MAKEUP AND HAIR PRINT
Oh my.. GOSH! I had wanted this print in the dress for the longest time but I just couldn’t bite the bullet until it was too late.. I umm’d and uhh’d for about a year until a sale came up on the Vixen website and I finally bought the makeup print in the skirt and I’m beyond glad I did! The quality is lush; it gathers nicely to give a large circle skirt without adding inches to my waist, the material itself is durable and feels like really good quality (stretch cotton sateen) and the print is just everything I could want in an outfit! It’s fast becoming my go-to swing skirt.
RESTING BABE FACE – OH YOU FOX
I literally cannot stand someone telling someone to “smile more” or accusing someone of “resting b*tch face” so this pin really spoke to me! I bought this pin a little while ago but I lost it and I was lucky enough to win an Oh You Fox Giveaway – I was so happy to be reunited with it. The cute font, cute pink colour & the sassy, get lost attitude of the catchphrase makes it a winner for me.
SIGNATURE ROSE DOUBLE – DAISY JEAN FLORALS
I always feel nude if I don’t have some kind of hair accessory and this signature rose double from Daisy Jean Florals has been a favourite of mine for years. I highly recommend checking out her products; each item I have bought from her has held up so well over the years and the rose doubles are absolutely gorgeous in real life. I find hair flowers can really help an outfit work and add some much needed colour sometimes.
FRENCHY – ERSTWILDER
If you’re dressing 1950’s or pinup and you don’t like Grease.. what.are.you.doing?! For me Grease (& Happy Days) was my first taste of the fifties and I can still remember singing along to all of the songs with the pink lyric book that came with the DVD as a kid. Frenchy is definitely one of my favourite characters (as is Rizzo) so I love having her near to me especially when I’m dressed head to toe in pink; I think she would approve!
LUCY HEELS IN PINK – BETTIE PAGE SHOES
These shoes are now my favourite shoes I have ever owned! I wanted this style of shoe since I first saw my friend Kristy wearing her yellow pair earlier in the year. I really wanted to get a pair for Miss Pinup New Zealand but with all the costs adding up I just couldn’t validate the purchase. A month or two pass and I received these beauties for Christmas #bestchristmaspresentever! Bless my boyfriend for looking after me and my shoe needs (AND getting the sizing right)! These are surprisingly comfortable but also very cute so it’s a win/win!
Thank you so much for reading my first in depth outfit of the day post! I hope you enjoyed a more thorough look and I’m happy to answer any questions just leave them below in the comments section.
What else would you like to see on the blog?! Again, let me know below.

As promised (maybe a little late) here is a little recap all about my trip to Auckland at the end of May. I am not a fan of travelling, I don’t know what it is but I just get so anxious and make myself sick so unfortunately I wasn’t feeling my best – just letting you know why I look so pained in my photos!! Anyway, the trip begun with a 10.45am plane trip from Wellington we got there at least one hour early (#anxiety) and bumped in Mrs Greatnews who just so happened to be on the same flight as us – what a coincidence!
The reason why Sam & I went up to Auckland was so I could attend The Pin Up Honeys Social Club’s Soiree celebrating Miss Monique Sweet & Dariel Dearlove great wins at the American Rockabilly convention Viva Las Vegas! And what a night it was, but I’ll get on to that a little later.
On the day of the soiree I wasn’t too sure about the dress I had packed so Sam & I decided to hike up the hill to the infamous K-Rd (Karangahape Road) to visit the lovely Cathy from Rita Sue Clothing. Not only did we find Cathy but we also found Kaye (from Kabella Baby) in there which was so lovely – it’s nice being able to chat in REAL LIFE. From there I tried on a couple of dresses, first up was the gorgeous Ava dress from PUG which was the most beautiful shade of silver – I adored it but I wasn’t 100% sure. Then Cathy pulled out the most amazing dress ( I, myself would never have picked it up) but as soon as I tried it on I felt a million bucks and that dress was from The Pretty Dress Company. A company I have heard so much about and now I know why, the material is gorgeous (amazing quality with stretch) and the design just flatters every inch of your body – I could not recommend them enough! And if you’re in Auckland head to Rita Sue Clothing – the customer service is amazing and they will really help you find the right dress for any occasion.
I had also been super excited to try baked goods from The Pie Piper & Doornuts on K-Rd they recently opened up a store front and I am so glad I got to try some of their marvelous treats. I went for Awhi’s strawberry sprinkled doughnut and Sam went with the angelic angel food cake. My doughnut was a life changing experience, I’ve never had a doughnut so soft and delicate as the one I got from The Pie Piper/Doornuts and I totally regret not buying the S’mores doughnut whilst I was there.. We went back on the Monday only to find out that they weren’t opened, we were so gutted! I will definitely be returning next time I’m up that way but if you’re lucky enough to live in Auckland DO CHECK THEM OUT! You will not regret it.
Another place we went to whilst on K-Rd was Lord of the Fries and oh.. my.. GOSH. Why don’t we have this chain in Wellington?! It’s amazing, we went back two times I think.. On the first visit we didn’t realise until we had left that all the food is vegetarian? Then on the next two visits we really went to town! If you’re vegetarian and you’re into that American styled food I highly recommend Lord of the Fries if you have it in your area!
After eating our weight in junk food we decided to chill at our hotel, I set my hair again because the Auckland humidity had destroyed my curls. And then I got ready for the soiree, I bought these super flashy earrings from Lovisa and brought my vintage costume necklace and paired it with the amazing Pretty Dress Company dress I had bought earlier in the day. Then I made my way to Hotel Debrett where the soiree was being held.
I was beyond nervous, it’s so hard meeting people in real life but all of the Pin Up Honeys were SO lovely, I got to meet so many beauties that I have been following online for the LONGEST time and a whole lot of new faces too – shout out to; Miss Honey Bee, Ginger is a NZ Pinup, Danielle from Devel Branded, Miss Lily Grace, Miss RougeMiss Rouge, Miss Monique Sweet, Dariel Dearlove, Miss Estelle Belle, Miss Daphne Delov and Dolly Duet (+ so many more). It was a fab night and I feel so excited to see everyone at the Very Vintage Day Out.
The next two days were a blur, I felt so unwell – does anyone else get this when travelling or am I the only one? I took it easy and explored Auckland city with my beautiful boyfriend, we took blog photos, ate junk food, went to the infamous Daiso store (my Mum loves it so much) and then we went to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The Guardians of the Galaxy films are so freaking good they really have something for EVERYBODY. I absolutely LOVED this film, I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the first movie but it did not disappoint!
I had such a great time in Auckland and I can’t wait to go back up later this year for the Very Vintage Day Out. After a lot thought I have decided to enter the Miss Pin Up New Zealand competition so please cross your fingers & toes for me! I hope you are all having a lovely week and I should be back to posting weekly soon enough!
