A Haunting We Will Go…. Erstwilder – Halloween 2018

The countdown is on and there’s only 51 days until Halloween. Are you ready? Because I am, thanks to Erstwilder‘s latest launch; A Haunting We Will Go.. I’ve already got outfits planned for the week of Halloween and my costume because I like Halloween almost as much as I like Christmas!! Us Australasian folk grew up watching all of you Americans with your fall leaves, apple bobbing, trick-or-treating and last but not certainly least carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns business and quite frankly I was jealous and to this day I still am. Erstwilder has brought my childhood fantasy of the whimsy & nostalgia of Halloween into accessory form and I’m living for it – pumpkins (YES THE ORANGE ONES NOT THE ANEMIC GREEN ONES WE GET IN NZ), skeletons, potions, beasts and freaking candy corn!! It’s everything you could want in the weeks leading up to one of spookiest nights of the year…

OOTD – Steppin’ out

IMG_3440

Every once in a while I like to mix it up – you can’t wear pink EVERYDAY (well you can and I aspire to). BUT this week’s OOTD I wanted to do bit of a style swap and add a touch of darkness to my usual candyfloss demeanor and aesthetic. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is a necessary evil sometimes and with it being a new year #2018 I wanted to spice things up a bit – I don’t want y’all to get sick of me 😉 –
Although in saying that – I have absolutely no idea why I picked a long sleeve dress when we currently have 80-90% humidity on a regular basis; am I crazy? Yes, yes I am – anything in the name of fashion!
What season is it where you’re living? In New Zealand we’re pretty much at the end of our Summer and boy has it been a HOT one!! I’ve never felt humidity like it – I think myself and a lot of people are very excited for some cooler temps in Autumn.

The Carmen Wrap Turban – Black & White – Who’s that Girl?
As many of you know (if you’re plugged into the ‘pin-up girl’ world) you would have seen turbans/knotted hair scarves are very “in” at the moment. It’s like the trend exploded from nowhere and next thing I know everyone is wearing them! I originally fell in love with the Sarahsdoowopdos creations but whenever she would restock I’d miss out; I tried for 3 months (sometimes timezone differences can be the worst)! Then I started to notice Miss Ruby Rabbit was wearing a collection of different hairscarves/turbans and had them down as Who’s that Girl. And of course I thought; Who’s that girl?? I followed on Instagram immediately – before there was even a shop! And on the night of the release I bought two (because shipping is hella expensive). I don’t get to wear this one as much as I would like to but I absolutely love it; I feel like it gives an extra oomph to an outfit and it really is a statement piece.

Katniss Dress in Green – Voodoo Vixen
Oh this dress, you either love it or hate it. I personally love it(which is why I own it)! I’m obsessed with cats so finding a dress with cats on it is amazing and finding a swing dress with cats on it is spectacular! I’ve had this dress for a very long time; since I was a baby pinup and before I even shared my outfits online – what a crazy time. The quality of the fabric is nice – it’s a little heavy for summer #90%humidity but it’s definitely the right dress for winter. I knew when I purchased this dress awhile back I looked at reviews and I knew a lot of customers had issues with the sleeves of the dress particularly the armpits. I purchased the medium and had absolutely no issues with the arms at the time however I’m more of a medium/large (12-14 NZ) and have felt a little tightness so that’s something you should definitely look in to if you’re thinking about purchasing.

Retro Belt – Black – Hell Bunny
Well, if you read my previous post ‘Holy Grail Items’ you’ll know that I am obsessed with these belts! To reiterate..

  • They cinch you waist and make it look iddy biddy!
  • Are stomach friendly (if you have issues with stomach health)
  • Sizes small, medium and large – but they do have a lot of stretch!
  • In colours: red, pink, black, white, sky blue, lavender, mint, aqua, silver, gold, green & burgundy.
  • Affordable! $15.00 NZD for a belt that will last you years!

I hope y’all liked this little twist on my usual OOTD! Do you dress in darker colours? Do you hate pink? Your weekly challenge is to wear something outside your comfort zone for a day and see how you feel! Let me know how you get on in the comments or @missflossypots on Instagram.

My Holy Grail Products

MissFlossypots_SamuelMcAlpine_6pin-up

noun
noun: pinup
  1. a poster showing a famous or attractive person.
    • a person featured in a pin-up.

Pin-up is often just a term thrown around by the new generation of ladies interested in vintage looks (mainly from the 50s). Above is what it used to mean (and still means to some people) but I LOVE the way it has been revolutionized and we have kind of claimed the word back and made it for us rather than for other people. I know there are still modern day “pin-ups” but I feel like this new wave of dress style is something so different and inclusive. An incredible movement mainly showcasing body positivity; that everyone can be beautiful no matter what shape, ethnicity, gender etc – rather than the standardized mainstream beauty. Pinup to me is a style often characterized by red lipstick, winged liner and some kind of curl in the hair.

In this post I’m going to discuss my holy grail items that can help anyone interested in dressing “pin-up” or lovelies that already dress it! Sometimes it’s nice to have some guidance because I know from experience entering this world of vintage inspired stuff can be pretty overwhelming.. Like what brands can you trust? The brands I am talking about in this post are brands I have used for a long time now and I know they work.
If you would like me to do a beginners guide to pin-up please let me know below!

Untitled-1
Besame Lipstick – Victory Red
This lipstick is my go-to lipstick – I’ve been wearing Victory Red by Besame Cosmetics at least 4 times a week for a year and a half. I wear it to work and I don’t reapply all day and it will usually stay on the whole day. Saying that I highly recommend buying a lip liner. Lining and colouring your entire lips in lip liner before applying lipstick really helps you get the perfect lip shape, it also helps stop your lipstick from bleeding and makes it last a lot longer.

L’oreal Paris – Black Gel Liner
I have been applying black liner since I was 14 years old that’s almost 10 years. So I have trialed a lot of products; liquid, pencil and then I finally found gel liner. I tried this liner in 2014 and I have been using it ever since – every photo you would have seen of me I would have been using this L’oreal gel liner. I have hooded eyelids and it doesn’t transfer onto my lids even after a long day – it has also never dried up!! It’s truly amazing.

Hell Bunny Elasticated Belt
I LOVE THESE BELTS!! I bought a black one back in 2014 when I first started dressing ‘pinup’ before I was even on social media! And I still have and wear it all the time – I have two more in pink and light blue too. Not a lot of people know that I have been dealing with stomach problems since forever so wearing belts or anything remotely tight or restricting around my stomach can make me very sick so I find wearing an elasticated belt gives me that signatures fifties silhouette without the pain. I’d rather be comfortable and these belts are such a cheap and easy way to cinch your waist! One day I’ll have them in all of the colours!!

Dancing Days – Banned Petticoat
For a long time I would wear the same vintage petticoat because I was too scared to spend the money on another petticoat that could potentially be as scratchy as other petticoats I had previously tried. Then about a year and a half ago I bought a banned petticoat and I have not looked back since. Petticoats are one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe – I love the drama they give to an outfit and they really make a circle skirt POP! I never go out without one – sometimes I wear two! Banned Petticoats are 100% my favourite reproduction petticoats – they are an investment piece but you’ll get tons of out wear out of them!

Ballet Flats
I know a lot of ladies love ballet flats and I really love them too. They’re relatively cheap, cute and because they’re affordable you can get a few pairs that can go with different coloured outfits. However I would invest in a good pair in black so you’re able to wear them for long periods of time and they’ll go with everything.

What are you holy grail items?? Let me know below. It’s really interesting seeing what people treasure most!

OOTD – American Vehicle Day 2018

This year was my fourth year attending the American Vehicle Day at the Trentham racecourse – it’s getting to be a tradition now and I think it’s only because of the hot doughnuts they sell! You can find last years post here – I talk all about it and to be honest it’s literally the same thing every year; the same cars, people, food and mostly the same stalls; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! It’s $10 ticketed event with tons of vintage cars from the 30’s to modern day, there are the typical food trucks (hot chips – they’re soo good, hot dogs, doughnuts, Thai food and ice cream), stalls selling retro items (no vintage that I could see though) and tons of car enthusiasts everywhere!

IMG_2845

Last year I went all black and white because that’s was my vibe at the time but this year was completely different. My theme this year was as tradition 1950’s day wear as I could possibly get, that’s why I wore my day wear inspired out from Miss Pinup New Zealand but jazzed it up with a few different accessories! I am a little obsessed with pastel colours at the moment (well since forever) and I feel like this outfit totally encompasses that from head to toe.

#themainevent:
I don’t think I’ve really talked about this dress before; I’ve never had the opportunity to properly photograph this beauty and I didn’t want to share it until I could capture it properly! This dress is custom made by Cry Cry Cry Clothing – as you know I am obsessed with Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I choose to wear it whenever I can. This dress was based on the amazing pink dress that was created for my Miss Pinup New Zealand entry photos; I knew I wanted another variation on the pink dress and I knew I wanted it blue. And Fran delivered once again! I love the style of this dress; the fit is PERFECT. It’s a proper swing skirt too – I’m wearing TWO petticoats in these photos and there’s still room! I think having enough fabric in a skirt is so essential to this kind of ‘look’ after all there’s nothing more magical then swirling in a proper swing dress/skirt especially with a pink petticoat! Also look at that little glimpse of gingham at the bottom – I NEED a blue gingham dress in my life; if you have seen one please let me know below! I’ve had a lot of questions about my Cry Cry Cry Clothing pieces and I will say a lot of them have been custom made for me so you won’t find them on the website BUT you can contact Fran directly if you want something similar and custom made!

ALSO:
Can we just talk about these shoes for a second?  These shoes are from Bettie Page Shoes and they were given to me for Christmas from my amazing boyfriend and I’m beyond pleased. I always get a little anxious when I see heels because I cannot walk in heels to save my life and I cannot be uncomfortable when it comes to shoes. I can actually walk in these and they don’t hurt and haven’t given me blisters!! I think I’m going to need these in all of the colours just so I can colour match outfits 😉 .

That’s all for this week, I hope you liked this blog post; these have to be my favourite outfit photos for this year and I can’t wait to shoot more! ❤

Cry Cry Cry Clothing

Welcome back to this week’s blogpost, grab a cuppa and a snack because it’s going to be a long one! This week’s inspiration is all about ethically sourced AND I will be sharing unseen photos of my outfits from Miss Pinup New Zealand! I just want to start with: this isn’t sponsored I just really love Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I know the quality to be outstanding (I would know, I have 6 garments)! + I only want to share the best with you!

If you don’t know already know I’m a pretty big fan of Cry Cry Cry Clothing made in New Zealand by the lovely Fran and this is the brand I have picked for my ethically sourced theme. Many of you will remember the clothing Swonderful which was created by Fran and her daughter Ginny, it was a super sweet & edgy vintage inspired clothing line that caught the attention of many including me, I bought my first Swonderful piece at Rita Sue in 2015 and I wore it to DEATH (Rip gingham dress). On my next trip to Auckland I visited Rita Sue again in search of Swonderful and the lovely Alicia told me that Fran had launched a new line called Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I was genuinely delighted! I couldn’t find anything until one day I noticed a follow notification from Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I pounced on that follow back button. The rest is history!

From there Fran and I got talking and next thing I knew I was trying on the most beautiful pink swing dress with a scalloped collar and the cutest little black bows placed all around it. This was the dress I was going to wear for the Miss Pinup New Zealand entry video. When I got through to the MPUNZ finales I knew Fran would be making my outfits and we came up with some magical stuff.

Evening dress:
I think this was probably the hardest one for both of us… I had no idea what I wanted as usual and we had to find something that I would feel comfortable in. This was the end result – inspired by Elizabeth Taylor we went for this striking blue fabric and I’m so glad we did! I love the romantic vibe to the dress; the wrap around mesh takes it to another level of sophistication.

IMG_0024 instaIMG_0020IMG_0011IMG_0007

Talent dress:
Well this was all Fran! I decided to do my talent to a song from the Musical Hairspray! I absolutely love the sixties, hairspray and purple so this dress was perfect for me! I love the fact this dress is mistaken for true vintage all of the time; it just shows the workmanship in Fran’s work. Its skirt is a proper swing/circle skirt (I must wear two petticoats in this and I’m sure I could get a third in there too!) which really helped with the twirling in my act.

Beachwear:
This is my favourite piece from Cry Cry Cry Clothing. I’m the gal who hadn’t worn anything sleeveless in 13 years, the girl that didn’t want to show leg – I could go on. But in this number I feel fabulous; which I never thought I could in beachwear. I fell in love with a similar piece a couple years back and pinned on my Pinterest board and that’s what inspired this!

Getting something custom made for your body isn’t always a priority but my god is it worth it! I had never had  (or dreamed of having) a custom made dress before I met Fran but I’m so glad I own a few pieces that are made just for me and that I can treasure forever. Even the made to order/standard sizing from Cry Cry Cry is amazing and really reasonably priced for all the love and care that goes into it all. My goal for 2017 is to cut down on buying dresses that aren’t made with love and fill my closet with one of kind pieces that are.

Pros of buying ethically made/custom made:
You know where it’s coming from
It will be good quality
You’re helping someone get paid what they should! And that’s how it should be.
If custom; you can get it tailored to your body – so it fits in all the right places.
Made to order offer unique styles that aren’t mass produced – so you can stand out!

Outfit of the day – Rockabilly Rebel

This weeks outfit of the day was again all about colour or maybe lack of.. The combination of black, white & red is definitely one of my favourites; although pink is definitely higher on the list. This look was inspired by my usual face of the day; black hair, pale skin and red lips… I really love a cohesive look – colour matching and all that jazz (you’ll soon realise this with these outfit of the day posts)!

As this is a fairly new segment on my blog I want to reiterate what I’m trying to do with this new take on the classic outfit of the day post:

Each week I will post about one of my outfits like an outfit of the day post. Instead of the generic one shot of the outfit from my Instagram I will be posting more photos of the outfits, where the clothes come from and the inspiration behind each look.

Piano skirt – Dangerfield Clothing
When I plan my outfits (yes, I PLAN because I truly hate waking up in the morning unprepared!) I tend to create it around one specific item, theme or hairstyle and for this weeks outfit it was this amazing piano skirt from Dangerfield. No longer in stock, I received this beauty when my parents came back from Australia in 2016 – it’s held up pretty well hasn’t it? I hadn’t heard of Dangerfield before and I was super surprised that my parents had found a little bit of pinup reproduction that I hadn’t heard of (truly shocking?!) but I’m so glad they did. I find the fit of this really nice ( a little roomy for a size 12 but I personally prefer that with skirts) and it even has a little cotton/tulle layer underneath skirt to give it a little oomph if you don’t own a petticoat – I also really like the length of this skirt! Dangerfield has three main labels and they are; Princess Highway, Dangerfield & Revival – If you’re into reproduction and want swing skirts that are the right length and will fit a petticoat underneath I highly recommend shopping in Revival, all the Dangerfield pieces I own are from the Revival line and I absolutely love them!

Powder Puff Top – Vixen by Micheline Pitt
Another Vixen by Micheline Pitt piece this week because I’m a little bit obsessed! It has been beyond hot here in New Zealand and wearing shirts (even t-shirts) have been a bit of a mare! Never fear! The powder puff  saves the day with it’s low cut/plunge bust and back it allows your skin to breathe in this barely breathable heat.. It’s made from heavy cotton spandex and the puffed sleeve are elasticated so they can sit on your shoulders or off for more of a edgy cool look (but if you’re like  me and wearing a strapless bra is too much of an effort keep it on your shoulders because it looks just as cool). This has been a huge favourite of mine this summer and I desperately want it in ALL of the colours!
Also another huge thumbs up is that the powder puff is designed & made by hand in LA!!

Red Lipstick Club – Fairy Tale Collars
First rule of Lipstick Club is… wear a pin that tells everyone that you’re in the red lipstick club. It’s true, I am a dedicated follower of this club – everyday I wear my Besame lipstick and I love it. Fairy Tale Collars hit the nail on the head with this quirky & clever design that most of us pin up gals can relate to – I highly recommend checking out this lovely ladies social pages!

Picnic Portrait – Erstwilder
You’ll probably remember this cutie from a post I did a couple of years ago. I was contacted by Two Lippy Ladies because they thought this brooch screamed Miss Flossypots and they were so right! At the time (and to this day) I rock the floppy hats, gingham and sunnies; she even has the same mole!

Hairscarf – Dangerfield
I have to say a hairscarf is a hairscarf BUT I do quite like this one! I bought this from the Dangerfield store in Auckland (a place of dreams!!) and I wasn’t too sure about it at first as the price was almost double my usual hair-scarves but I have found the quality to be twice as good. I use this red hair scarf quite a bit as you probably have seen from my Instagram and it doesn’t have any holes in it despite me pushing bobby pin through it!
I have also found it’s the best size/shaped one I have come across; it ties into a neat little bow every time!

Loafers – K-mart
Say what you like about K-mart, I love it. I bought these shoes earlier last year and I absolutely adore them; the cute floral embroidery and faux suede look. I walk to and from work (6km) 5 days a week in these suckers (I know that is definitely not good for my feet) and they have lasted sooo well especially for $17!!

Thanks for reading my second installment! I’ve put out a blog post every week since the new year; I can’t quite believe it?! What would you like to see here on Miss Flossypots? I’ve been wanting to do a Ask Flossy post (probably just a one off) but I don’t know if anyone would be interested? Let me know below. 🙂

Spicy Chickpea, Carrot & Feta Salad

Look… I’m first one to tell you that I’m not a fan of salads in fact I kind of despise most of them. This is as close as I get to salad and I don’t even know if most people would class this as a salad but I do and that’s why you’re here. I made this recipe up a couple of years ago and it’s one of my favourite lighter dishes; the creaminess of the feta, the spice & crunch from the chickpeas and the freshness of carrot make this dish sing! Oh and it’s super easy – which is all you can ask for in a recipe.

Ingredients:
2 medium carrots grated finely
100g feta (I use Bouton d’or – it’s so creamy!)
1 can chickpeas
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp garlic salt
1 1/2 tsp siracha
Plenty of pepper!
A small handful of basil

Dressing:
Juice of 1 lemon
Plenty of pepper & salt
1 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
1 1/2 tsp cumin

Carrot Salad
IMG_0984IMG_0987IMG_0994IMG_0997

Method:
Begin by preheating your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Drain the chickpeas and dry them in between two paper towels – this helps with the crunch!
In a small bowl mix the oil, turmeric, cumin, garlic salt, sriracha & pepper with the chickpeas until evenly coated and spread on to a lined baking tray. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.

Whilst the chickpeas are baking start your dressing.
Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl and whisk together – set aside.

Grate the carrots on the finest setting on your grater for a softer bite or on a coarse setting for more crunch. I did mine of the fine setting as you can see!
Place that in a medium sized bowl and start prepping you feta.
Cut the feta in bite size cubes – about 1cm x 1cm and add them to carrots along with the dressing. Coarsely chop the basil and add to the carrot mix.

Once the chickpeas are golden put them in the same bowl as the carrot, mix and toss until everything evenly distributed. Place in a bowl and serve!

Will stay fresh in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

I hope you enjoyed this recipe – feel free to tag me on Instagram or Facebook using @missflossypots if you decide to make this! What’s your favourite salad? I need to up my game so please share!

Corn & Pea Tikkis w/ cumin yoghurt dressing

corn & pea tikkis

There’s something about getting a new cookbook that fills me with excitement; the photography, the food and inspiration. I can spend hours flicking through cookbooks but I find sometimes I get caught up in the idea of a recipe but I never actually get round to finding all of the ingredients or finding the time to make something ‘new’. This time is different – my lovely boyfriend was completely spoiled this Christmas (not by me, but his family & friends) and he was showered in cookbooks so by default I was showered in cookbooks. One in particular stood out to both of us  “The Vegetable: Recipes That Celebrate Nature” by Caroline Griffiths & Vicki Valsamis – this book is filled with so many amazing vegetarian recipes! We went through and picked recipes and have actually made some. This recipe today is inspired by their Corn Tikkis with Raita & Tamarind Sauce, I halved the recipe, added a few different spices, took out the tamarind sauce & raita and replaced it with a spiced yoghurt dressing – because that’s what cooking is all about; making it your own.
Beware these tikkis are very spicy – the dressing helps cools it down but if you’re not a fan of spice feel free to omit the sriracha sauce!

corn & pea tikkis 1
corn & pea tikkis 5corn & pea tikkis 2
Corn & Pea Tikkis w/ cumin yoghurt dressing

Makes 10

Ingredients:
55g frozen Corn Kernels
40g frozen peas
300g potatoes
50g dry wholemeal breadcrumbs
1 tsp garam masala
1 1/2 tsp siracha hot sauce
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp hot paprika
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 clove of garlic (finely grated)
Handful of basil
Salt & pepper
Vegetable oil for shallow frying

Yoghurt Dressing:
150ml Greek style Yoghurt
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp ground pepper
1 tsp lemon juice
Salt

Method:
Begin by roughly chopping the potatoes into cubes then place them in a small saucepan and leave to boil. Once the potatoes can be penetrated with a butter knife throw in the peas & corn kernels – leave to boil for 2-3 minutes then drain.
Place the drained potatoes, peas & corn in a medium size bowl and roughly mash – you still want chunks of corn and peas so don’t be too thorough.
Add the breadcrumbs, garam masala, sriracha, garlic, ginger, hot paprika, turmeric, basil and plenty of salt and pepper.

Line a baking tray with baking paper and begin rolling the mixture into small balls (roughly 2 tbsp of mixture) and place them on the baking tray.
Heat 1cm of canola oil in a frying pan on a medium to high heat – to test the oil place a tiny amount of of the mix in the pan; if  it sizzles immediately the oil is ready for cooking.
Depending on the size of your pan cook 4-5 at a time; 2 minutes each side. Place tikkis on a paper towel and once all of the tikkis have cooked, place them back on the baking paper/tray and continue to bake in the oven on 180 degrees Celsius for 5-10 minutes (this isn’t necessary but it helps to keep them hot when making the yoghurt dressing).

Yoghurt Cumin Dressing
Combine all ingredients and drizzle on the tikkis or serve on the side.

Enjoy!

Flat Lay Favourites #1

Danielle from Devel brought ‘Flat Lays’ to my attention a couple months back via Instagram in a series of colour challenges labelled #flatlayfridaychallenge. Ever since then I have been a little obsessed but kind of scared to put together my own UNTIL yesterday. Yesterday I thought why not? I’ve been so sick of the endless selfies on my profile; I want to start mixing things up a little bit by adding a few flat lays and more food photos.

IMG_8806

What is a ‘flat lay’? For me it would be arranging/showcasing items in an orderly or randomized fashion that appeals to you on a flat surface. Whether it’s super organized or items randomly placed, it’s really up to you. Then snap a photo from a bird’s eye view perspective (#technicalterm) and there you have it! Easy.

IMG_8790

This week I’m running through a couple of my favourites and of course the underlying theme is pink. Here a run through of each item – if you follow me on Instagram you would have seen these items pop up on my stories and/or my profile.

1. Unicorn/Magical Makeup Bag from K-mart: What can I say? I’m sucker for anything that’s pink and glittery.. I saw this on one of my infamous k-mart shops with Mum and fell in love with it. I haven’t used it much yet because it’s so pretty and I don’t want to ruin it BUT it will be my make-up bag soon enough.

2. Hell Bunny Pink Belt from Kabella Baby: I saw an Instagram post from one of my great friends, Rachel, wearing this amazing belt a couple of months ago. I had to have one immediately so I bought it the next day.. I do not regret this purchase at all, I am a huge fan of this style of Hell Bunny belt and now own it in three different colours and wear them on a daily basis! Plus it’s pink..

3. Fun Lovin’ Frenchie Brooch by Erstwilder: I have LOVED Grease for the longest time and when Erstwilder announced that they were coming out with a Grease collection I knew I had to get my hands on one! And I did! I’ve been loving my Frenchie and have put together a series of photos that should be on my Instagram.

4. Ice cream & Doughnut brooch from Bel Air Baby: I just love Bel Air Baby. I’ve been wearing these bad boys at least three times a week. There is something so cute about them, they just go with every outfit and they really make me happy.

5. Chocolate Doughnuts: If you know anything about me you’ll know that I freaking LOVE doughnuts. On Monday I went into my local bakery to pick up some snacks for my girl Xamia Arc and saw these HUGE doughnuts for $2.60 so I bought two. They are so freaking good; they don’t taste super fried (more bready than anything) and the chocolate is so sweet not a conventional doughnut but still super good.  I mean.. look at it.

6. S’well Bottle 500ml: I’ve seen these everywhere lately! And as it was recently Plastic Free July I thought I’d pick one of these bad boys up to reduce plastic waste. I’m so glad I bought it too! I’ve been using it 24/7; it keeps cold water cold for 24 hours and hot water hot for 12. I love that! I’m so excited to use it in the Summer time. I highly recommend purchasing one of these.

Okay, okay, okay I must say I’ve been in love with pins/brooches lately – I think I’ve been buying them more than dresses and that never happens! I’ve noticed a lot of pin-up inspired gals rocking pins like these and I absolutely adore the whole pink ladies vibe from Grease (pink jackets studded with quirky pins/brooches) and I’m totally getting one of those pink Collectif clothing jackets so I can match y’all. I thought I would share my current favourite brooches/pins which are little different from the usual brooches/pins. As much as I like the typical ‘pin-up’ brooch brands I do prefer pins to have a bit of quirk and humour to them and I love supporting smaller brands!
If you’re looking for a new pin/brooch I highly recommend any of these amazing businesses – I know they are all fantastic quality as I own quite a few of these!
Miss Flossypots - Favourite Pins

1. Oh You Fox
Oh my gosh, I think I’m a little obsessed with Oh You Fox at the moment every time I have a look at their website I find myself wanting everything?? I currently own ‘Resting Babe Face’ (MY FAVOURITE) & recently found myself buying the cutie pie black cat to help raise funds for Victoria’s(creator & owner of Oh You Fox) wee kitty Skittles (taking a kitty overseas is no easy feat)! And I wanted it, I mean really wanted it.

2. FairytaleCollars
If you have been following me on Instagram (@missflossypots #shamelessplug) you would have seen this super cool pin from Fairytale Collars. I love pins and I absolutely adore my red lipstick so this pin is everything. I know it will appeal to a lot of you pin up ladies so I had to share!

3. Pony People
I had a lovely lunch date with my good gal pal Xamia Arc a couple of weeks back and I remember her showing me these ADORABLE pins from Pony People. She bought the cutest pins from them (check out her instagram to see) and I thought I’d have a gander through their Etsy and boy did I not regret it! I fell in love with this kitty as it reminds me of one of my boys back home. I am hoping they will be restocking pins soon as their etsy stock is a little low!

4. Bel Air Baby
I absolutely ADORE Bel Air Baby! I bought the best brooch ever from their wee etsy store earlier in the year (pink doughnut with sprinkles!!) and I recently made a second purchase which I will share on my Instagram as soon as they arrive. I love the quality of these brooches, the fact they’re all original drawings by Mira (the creator) and they are all so quirky. The amount of pale pinks in the Bel Air Baby catalog genuinely makes me happy and I’m so excited to see what they do in the future. Those doughnut earrings have my name written all over them!
