I absolutely adore my new Retrospec’d dress so I thought I would put together a little #pinupchristmas outfit just to show it off! I absolutely adore the brand Retrospec’d and I have A LOT of their dresses on my wishlist, I highly recommend checking them out if you’re a fan of tradition 1950’s fashion. This outfit is simple but effective; the hardest part was the updo! What are you wearing today? Remember to hashtag #pinupchristmas – I love seeing everyone’s outfits! I have finally come up with my favourite chocolate cupcake base and I am super excited to share it with you! I reworked my favourite chocolate cake recipe so now my chocolate cupcakes taste just as good as my cakes – what a relief! And seeing as it’s Blogmas I thought I would put a festive spin on it by making it minty; I personally cannot stand mint but my boyfriend absolutely loved them. I love the base of this recipe with all of my heart; it’s dense but light with a strong chocolate taste and it also rises evenly – it.is.the.BEST. What are you baking at the moment? Have you made Christmas mince pies yet? I haven’t even eaten one of the supermarket ones yet – blasphemy!
I am so sorry for the lack #pinupchristmas outfits! This is only my second one and it’s already the ninth of December; how horrid! This cute outfit embodies the festive spirit from my vibrant red Lindy Bop dress to my Elf hat – it’s the whole shabang. I know A LOT of you enjoyed my cupcake decorating photos from earlier in the year so I thought I would recreate it but make it more CHRISTMASSY (honestly, I have never said that word as much as I have been in the month of Blogmas). The cupcakes I’m baking here are using my favourite chocolate cupcake base with mint icing and minty chocolate from Whittakers – there will be a recipe post up later this week so stay tuned. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as my boyfriend and I enjoyed taking them!
This is my go-to ginger cake recipe; it’s literally the BEST ginger cake I have ever tried. I’ve been using this recipe from BBC Good Food for at least five years and it has always been a winner. I have omitted the caramel icing just to keep it simple but if you’re going all out I HIGHLY recommend making it because it’s magical. I’ve also quartered the recipe to fit in two 10cm mini cake tins because I live with my boyfriend and there is no way we can eat an entire cake! Well we could but we shouldn’t.
It’s almost Christmas and I’m really getting into the festive mood; paint me red and toss tinsel at me. I hope you’re enjoying my festive themed posts, today’s post is my first Christmassy themed wishlist for the month and boy, was it hard to narrow it down to seven items!! I think I may make a separate post for wishlist Christmas decorations because I am completely obsessed with them. What’s on your wishlist this week? Fill me in, in the comment section below!
I am all about accessorizing this year and I feel like I’ve really let myself down in terms festive accessorizing but my loss is your gain! Here are some of my favourite Christmassy brooches out there at the moment featuring quite a few cat themed brooches.
1. Deer Arrow’s Kitten in Mittens can be worn two ways as a double brooch or as a SUPER cute cardigan clip just to make your outfits ten times cuter and festive; a win-win!!! I would honestly wear this all year round as it’s not too kitsch if you know what I mean.
Whilst I was up in Auckland a couple of months ago I had the opportunity to shoot with an amazing photographer by the name of The Undefined Photography. I thought I would dedicated these high quality images (I wish all my post’s photos were this nice) to a dress review – after all I love this dress! A huge thank you to Katherine ( The Wardrobe/The Undefined Photography) for giving me such an incredible experience – she made me feel so comfortable during the photo-shoot (which is no easy feat, I’m an awkward person) and she made every photo look incredible and each photo feels unique and different to the rest. Check out her blog here – she has amazing outfit of the day posts and interviews with some incredible pinups such as Miss Hero Holiday and Miss Victory Violet plus she is just a beautiful person inside and out! This year I wanted to give a solid attempt at the annual Pinup Christmas Countdown; a lovely concept thought up by the gorgeous Miss Rouge, sharing a festive pinup outfit everyday counting down to Christmas! Here’s my first attempt at a Christmas-y outfit; I don’t have a lot of green but I have a gazillion red dresses so here’s the first of many!
I adore gingerbread biscuits and I feel as though December is the month of the ginger spiced foods and I thought I might as well make gingerbread Christmas tree biscuits; just to make it that little more festive! I don’t know about you but I do not have the time to make a gingerbread house only for it to fall down in five minutes and/or smear white royal icing on every service of my kitchen – no thanks. I decided to simply cut out triangles in the dough that way you won’t need any stencils and you can whip these biscuits up in no time at all. The base of these biscuits is vegan if you use a vegetable fat margarine which is what I do and it tastes exactly the same. I have also added fresh ginger to this recipe as I think it makes it taste TEN times better!
