Lady V London – The Goldie Dress in Cupid’s Rose

What kind of year would it be if I weren’t to collaborate with the lovely team from Lady V London? A terrible one! I started working with Lady V London in November 2016 #throwback – when I was just starting out and since then I have collaborated with them FOUR times!! In that time I have purchased from them and I can honestly say that I still love what they are all about. They’re affordable, good quality, ethically made (in London), size inclusive and they have a huge range of prints and styles suitable for everyone. And now it’s 2019 and I’m back with a Lady V London Outfit of the Day. This time it’s a new twist on the classic tea dress – IT HAS SLEEVES and it’s called The Goldie Dress! Cute little frilly sleeves that cover just the right amount so that your arms don’t get too cold in the fresh spring / autumn air or too hot when we get to summer.

The Goldie Dress in Cupid’s Rose – Who knew a simple sleeve would transform a whole design? I do now and my life is so much better for it. I can’t wait until we hit spring (so far away, I can’t handle it) so I can wear this dress to picnics with white sandals and a big floppy hat. If you have had the standard Tea dress from Lady V London you will know that they hit just at the knee, a little shorter than most traditional reproduction dresses and Goldie is no different, I quite like that as it gives it a modern twist – however, I would love to get my hands on a shorter petticoat that would sit right underneath it (please comment if you know of a good quality short petticoat). If you’re not a fan of petticoats (I know there are people that don’t like petticoats #shock #horror) the Goldie sits nicely without one, it’s a little gathered and sits really well on the hips. The Goldie dress has to be my favourite design now.

The Cupid’s Rose print really stood out to me on their website, it really has a vintage vibe to it – there’s something about bigger prints that I like so much more than smaller print. I feel like you don’t really need to accessorize, it really just speaks for itself. The Goldie dress is made up from 95% Polyester 5% Elastine – which means you don’t have to iron it and there’s a little bit of stretch if you’re between sizes. I went for a size 12 – 36 – bust and 30 inch waist, I’m between sizes so I think I could definitely fit into a size 10 but due to personal reasons I can’t wear anything too tight around my waist so the 12 is perfect for me! Just remember to measure yourself and check the sizing chart when ordering a new dress – this is so important.

A big thank you to the team at Lady V London (and the lovely Bryony) for sending me another gorgeous piece, I’m always delighted to work with Lady V London as I always get a well constructed and unique dress – and it always gets here quickly! I have worked with Lady V but I have also been a customer and I know for a fact that there isn’t any difference in the quality and the shipping times. I am a fan – if ya can’t tell!

The Lily Dress – Burgundy Red – Dolly & Dotty

IMG_7892 yell

As you all know I love dresses so that must mean I’m back with another dress feature! With seasons changing and New Zealand transitioning from Autumn to Winter ( it’s officially winter but I’m still in denial) I’ve been looking at my wardrobe. Do I have much catered for these seasons? No, of course not but I’ll tell you what – don’t underestimate my ability to layer! One thing I have been looking at has to be colour palettes and for awhile now I have had a wee obsession with burgundy reds and forest greens so when Dolly & Dotty reached out to me I knew exactly what would fill the gap in my wardrobe! Lady V London is a brand I love working with but also a brand I actually shop with and wholeheartedly believe in the product, that’s why I get super excited when that dress arrives at my house – I know it’s going to be fantastic.

Tutorial: My Go-to Pin-up Hair-do! Setting & Brush Out.

I often get asked “How long does it take to you to get ready in the morning?”, “How long does it take you to do your hair? It must take ages!” Well honey, I’m here to tell you it doesn’t take long at all! I’ve been dressing pin-up for about three years now and have really been through the ups and downs of vintage styling; clothes, make-up and have had so many hair fails!! And one thing I have learned is that no hair is the same; what might work for one person might not necessarily work for you and that’s okay because you’re eventually going to find something that does work for you. I’m here today to provide you with some tips and tricks or possibly just to show you that there are other ways of achieve pin-up hair! I know the way I do my hair probably isn’t the best way to do my hair but you know what? It works for me and it might work for you too!

Miss Flossypots - Hair setting - Masterpost

Since taking my hair from the 10 years of supermarket black hair-dye to this amazing copper colour, my hair has been incredibly different to my black hair. I am only washing my hair once a week and my hair sets are a million times better than they used to be and I haven’t changed a thing. So if you’re feeling down about your hair not curling as well as most of the brightly coloured hair pinups in the community it’s probably because it hasn’t been bleached recently! I set my hair every night; it takes around 15 minutes and I only use bobby pins, water in a spray bottle, a section comb and a hair-scarf. It’s super basic and super easy. Plastic pieces in foam rollers or even foam rollers themselves drive me crazy when I’m trying to sleep and with pin-curls there are no issues for me and they’re a real time saver for the next day. I literally roll out of bed un-pin – brush out and I’m ready to go in 5 to 10 minutes.

If you would like to see a video tutorial please let me know in the comments section below. If I get enough requests I will do one!! And if you would like me to post any other kind of tutorials let me know – this one was super fun to do.

P.S – New game alert; drink (water) every time I write the words; pin-curl, hairspray & bobby-pin! Yikes!

Cry Cry Cry Clothing

Welcome back to this week’s blogpost, grab a cuppa and a snack because it’s going to be a long one! This week’s inspiration is all about ethically sourced AND I will be sharing unseen photos of my outfits from Miss Pinup New Zealand! I just want to start with: this isn’t sponsored I just really love Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I know the quality to be outstanding (I would know, I have 6 garments)! + I only want to share the best with you!

If you don’t know already know I’m a pretty big fan of Cry Cry Cry Clothing made in New Zealand by the lovely Fran and this is the brand I have picked for my ethically sourced theme. Many of you will remember the clothing Swonderful which was created by Fran and her daughter Ginny, it was a super sweet & edgy vintage inspired clothing line that caught the attention of many including me, I bought my first Swonderful piece at Rita Sue in 2015 and I wore it to DEATH (Rip gingham dress). On my next trip to Auckland I visited Rita Sue again in search of Swonderful and the lovely Alicia told me that Fran had launched a new line called Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I was genuinely delighted! I couldn’t find anything until one day I noticed a follow notification from Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I pounced on that follow back button. The rest is history!

From there Fran and I got talking and next thing I knew I was trying on the most beautiful pink swing dress with a scalloped collar and the cutest little black bows placed all around it. This was the dress I was going to wear for the Miss Pinup New Zealand entry video. When I got through to the MPUNZ finales I knew Fran would be making my outfits and we came up with some magical stuff.

Evening dress:
I think this was probably the hardest one for both of us… I had no idea what I wanted as usual and we had to find something that I would feel comfortable in. This was the end result – inspired by Elizabeth Taylor we went for this striking blue fabric and I’m so glad we did! I love the romantic vibe to the dress; the wrap around mesh takes it to another level of sophistication.

Talent dress:
Well this was all Fran! I decided to do my talent to a song from the Musical Hairspray! I absolutely love the sixties, hairspray and purple so this dress was perfect for me! I love the fact this dress is mistaken for true vintage all of the time; it just shows the workmanship in Fran’s work. Its skirt is a proper swing/circle skirt (I must wear two petticoats in this and I’m sure I could get a third in there too!) which really helped with the twirling in my act.

Beachwear:
This is my favourite piece from Cry Cry Cry Clothing. I’m the gal who hadn’t worn anything sleeveless in 13 years, the girl that didn’t want to show leg – I could go on. But in this number I feel fabulous; which I never thought I could in beachwear. I fell in love with a similar piece a couple years back and pinned on my Pinterest board and that’s what inspired this!

Getting something custom made for your body isn’t always a priority but my god is it worth it! I had never had  (or dreamed of having) a custom made dress before I met Fran but I’m so glad I own a few pieces that are made just for me and that I can treasure forever. Even the made to order/standard sizing from Cry Cry Cry is amazing and really reasonably priced for all the love and care that goes into it all. My goal for 2017 is to cut down on buying dresses that aren’t made with love and fill my closet with one of kind pieces that are.

Pros of buying ethically made/custom made:
You know where it’s coming from
It will be good quality
You’re helping someone get paid what they should! And that’s how it should be.
If custom; you can get it tailored to your body – so it fits in all the right places.
Made to order offer unique styles that aren’t mass produced – so you can stand out!

The Katherine Dress by Dolly and Dotty

I.Love.Flowers. And do you know what I love more? Floral print dresses. This beautiful piece from Dolly and Dotty is called the Katherine dress and I am absolutely in love with it. My pinup wardrobe has been missing winter essentials – I think I have one dress with long sleeves and the rest are sleeveless so when I saw the Katherine dress I knew I had to have it. The delicate floral print is perfect year round – bright for those dull winter days and you can match your surroundings in the spring. The Katherine dress is made from 95% Cotton, 5% Elasthan making it a lightweight fabric with a bit of stretch – although I 100% agree with Dolly and Dotty’s advice, you will need to size up as this is very tight fitting on me. In my excitement I didn’t read that and got my usual size but it still fits!!
