The countdown is on and there’s only 51 days until Halloween. Are you ready? Because I am, thanks to Erstwilder‘s latest launch; A Haunting We Will Go.. I’ve already got outfits planned for the week of Halloween and my costume because I like Halloween almost as much as I like Christmas!! Us Australasian folk grew up watching all of you Americans with your fall leaves, apple bobbing, trick-or-treating and last but not certainly least carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns business and quite frankly I was jealous and to this day I still am. Erstwilder has brought my childhood fantasy of the whimsy & nostalgia of Halloween into accessory form and I’m living for it – pumpkins (YES THE ORANGE ONES NOT THE ANEMIC GREEN ONES WE GET IN NZ), skeletons, potions, beasts and freaking candy corn!! It’s everything you could want in the weeks leading up to one of spookiest nights of the year…
I’m so delighted to be working with Erstwilder again and especially on something that is near and dear to me. Halloween has been a big event in my life and I really think it shaped me into who I am today. Ever since I was a kid I loved dressing up; my poor mother would be up for hours making me freaking cardboard wings; spray painting them and gluing CDs on the backs of them for me to wear to Freaky Fridays (it’s a New Zealand thing or possibly my weird primary school thing). I’d like to say that was a one off but it happened A LOT. And when it came to Halloween I could be anything I wanted to be without people thinking I was weird and everyone else would do it too, it was creative and it was a chance to be something different for the day and I really liked that. Hence, me dressing like I’m a 1950’s housewife most days..
First up is my number one favourite in this range: Will-O the Wisp!
Will-O’ The Wisp – Designed by Donna Mizzi
Sorry to bring it back to my childhood but growing up and seeing those infamous Will-O’-The Wisps/Jack-o’-lanterns got me excited. Growing up in New Zealand we didn’t really have a whole lot of Halloween paraphernalia but good old Jack – he made appearances. Watching films – I’m looking at you Halloween Town, these were scattered everywhere but guess what? I’ve never actually seen an orange pumpkin (in the flesh) before? I don’t know if it’s because I don’t get out much but they just don’t seem to be a thing here? So Will-O the Wisp is everything to me! It brings back that nostalgic feel of Halloween and it’s goes with pretty much all of my outfits. Will-O the Wisp is the perfect fit for this Halloween (look at how happy it is!!) and you know what they say.. if you’ve got it, haunt it.
Witch’s Brew – Designed by Donna Mizzi
Next up is Witch’s Brew – was anyone else absolutely fascinated with Witches growing up? Charmed was my jam and not to mention HARRY POTTER (Gryffindor represent!!
) I can’t remember the amount of times I dressed as a witch but I can remember the time my Mum made me a black robe and gave me 15 plaits to sleep in so my hair would be a curly as Hermiones – anyone else?? Witch’s Brew is the perfect accessory for the everyday witch in hiding. I love a set of brooches so I was absolutely delighted to get my hands on this spell book and potion – this duo hit the nail on the head and I love it so much, it’s like I’m under a spell!
Creepy Cranium – Designed by Donna Mizzi
Okay, guys I’m creepin’ it real here, is this not the most funky take on something that could look pretty disgusting? Creepy Cranium is even better in real life too; it’s worms sparkle and the white of the skull really glistens making it perfect for all us gals that like to live in black clothing. This guy (or gal) reminds me of one of my favourite artists Noel Fielding (Mighty Boosh) so of course I chose it – it comical and a really great take on the traditional skeleton. Like the rest of this range all of these brooches are so wearable! It doesn’t need to be Halloween to wear a piece like this and for me that makes it a winner.
Again, thank you SO much to the amazing team at Erstwilder for producing another stunning range and for allowing me to be a part of it!! I had so much fun with this range from dressing up to taking a trip down memory lane.
What are some of your favourite memories of Halloween? Did you get candy corn? What does it taste like???? All these questions have gone unanswered for so long!!
